Nautambu is an island in the SOLOMON ISLANDS, which is one of the least densely populated Pacific Island nations. Despite the low population density, finding a safe place to call home has become a challenge for some Solomon Islanders. The rise in sea levels due to global climate change has led the people to abandon their shelters in search for the better. Most of the small islands are now on the verge of sinking.
The design intends to provide an alternate mode of living that also acts as a symbol of change, of sustenance and of a constant reminder of the past. It intends to provide a resilient living along the coasts that also has the potential to adapt and to expand to provide the local community by re-thinking the typologies of the space and re-utilizing what is left.
“This project is an architectural suggestion for abandoned architecture submerged in rised sea water, due to change of global climate.
If this project solves the problem of economic building cost, it may be another good prototype of sustainable houses in seaside town, so, it will dedicate benefits to local society.
Diverse everyday living programs are produced in different spatial conditions on each vertical “”living wheels”” functionally.
It is a technical architecture moving according to the rise of sea level for sustenance, so, it looks as if kinetic, artistic object on the sea, then it is aesthetic in a sense of the times, but we need more technical description about moving system.
Round shaped spaces introduce and resist against all the phenomena of surrounding nature in 360° range, and harmonized with the sea in context, then it has placeness on the sea.”

“The design meets all criteria of the competition. Regarding to the global climate change nowaday, people around the world are dealing with natural disasters like floodings, the rise in sea level etc.. This project design is a romantic and poetic solution which brings positive energy, inspiration and hope.”
-(Nguyen Hai Long, Tropical Space)
